At least 17,000 students slept in University bedrooms that contained asbestos last year and although the substance is harmless when left undisturbed, but can be a major risk to health & Wellbeing if damaged and still remains the single greatest cause of workrelated deaths in the UK.
Although Universities, Colleges and schools have asbestos management procedures, campaigners have raised concerns about the lack of awareness and particularly the general procedure of reinspections in order to check that any Asbestos Containing Materials remain in good condition and have not been disturbed or damaged.
